Benefits of Drinking Clean Water for Children

Did you know that kids have 5% more water in their bodies than adults? 75% of a child’s body is made up of water versus 70% of an adult’s body. Every organ and cell in their body needs water to function and grow. Since children’s minds and bodies are still developing, they are more sensitive to toxins and other contaminants than adults. Trace amounts of chemicals in water that might not affect an adult can harm a child. That’s why drinking purified water is especially vital for children.

There are many additional benefits of drinking purified water; these are the top five benefits for children:

Safe Water for Children#1. Purified water fuels their minds and body.

Water is the body’s primary source of energy. According to research studies, the leading cause of daytime fatigue for children is dehydration. Hydrated kids have higher energy and focus. When a child is hydrated, the electrical power in their brain moves faster. This helps them to make connections quicker and enhances their sustained, focused energy. Studies suggest that children who are rarely dehydrated are less likely to develop attention deficit disorders.

#2. Staying hydrated improves their short-term memory.

Learning basic math, focusing on a book or computer screen all rely on your short-term memory. Studies have shown that just a 2% drop in your body’s water content can make your short-term memory fuzzy. This can make learning especially challenging for children. Staying hydrated helps them to focus on learning new things that will eventually move into their long-term memory.

#3. Drinking lots of water decreases growing pains.

Many children suffer from sharp pains in their back, joints and muscles when they are going through a growth spurt. Research suggests that drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day can reduce these pains by as much as 80%. If your kid suffers from growing pains, it may help to give them a glass of water before bed and encourage them to drink more water throughout the day.

#4. Water flushes out toxins.

Your child’s body naturally cleans out toxins but it needs water to accomplish this vital function. Kids who are hydrated are less likely to fall ill because the water in their body was able to flushes out the toxins. This antioxidant effects can also improve their skin’s texture and reduce their risk of acne.

#5. Staying hydrated can reduce the symptoms of allergies and asthma.

Research indicates that chronically dehydrated children are more likely to develop asthma and allergies. Making sure that your children get enough water can prevent them from developing these conditions. If your children already have allergies or asthma, their symptoms may become milder if they drink more water.

Experts recommend that children under thirteen drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day (64 – 80 ounces). Children who are twelve and under should drink around 5 to 8 glasses (40 – 64 ounces).
